ErasmusOver 160 characters — statesmen, poets, philosophers, women of Rome, ordinary people — each with their own voice, temperament and life story, rigorously reconstructed.
No multiple-choice drills, no flashcards: a real conversation, as with a native speaker — because the best way to learn to speak is to speak.
The patient old schoolmaster to begin, Plautus to laugh, Cicero to debate, Seneca to reflect. Three levels: from your first sentences to the full Latin of the authors.
Even just «Salve!» will do. They understand you even when you stumble — and correct you the way good teachers do: by rephrasing, never by scolding. Under every reply, a transcript of what they understood.
A spoken reply in restored pronunciation, at the pace you choose. Replay it, slow it down, ask «quid significat?». And next time, they will remember you and your conversations.
Sermocinando was born inside the living-Latin movement, built by people who have spoken and taught Latin for years.
The English word engine comes from the Latin ingenium — we built the original. INGENIVM is our proprietary language engine, the fruit of months of philological work: it governs the restored pronunciation rule by rule (hard c throughout, v as /w/, true diphthongs, stress by the penultimate law), the historical registers and the characters’ memory, on top of state-of-the-art generative AI.
Each figure knows their own life and works — and knows nothing of what came after. Ask Caesar about his Rhine bridge: he answers. About the Ides of March, he cannot: for him they have not happened yet.
Three calibrated levels (Tiro, Discipulus, Peritus), correction by recasting, simplified paraphrases on request: the principles of language acquisition applied to Latin.
No social accounts, no tracking, no leaderboards. Your voice is used only to generate the reply, then deleted. People learn better without judges.

Yes: the Tiro level is built for near-beginners. The old schoolmaster Aurelianus speaks slowly, with simple words, repeats himself, and asks one question at a time. When you slip, nobody rubs it in: he recasts the correct sentence and the conversation moves on. It is the opposite of an exam.
Yes, and it is policed rule by rule: velar c and g throughout, semivocalic v, true diphthongs, quantities and stress. We honestly label it "experimentalis": perfect vowel quantities remain an open frontier for any speech synthesis — but what you hear is classical Latin, not church-Italian Latin.
Every character carries a rigorous biographical dossier: dates, works, family, events — and an impassable time boundary (Cicero does not know the Philippics; Caesar knows nothing of the Ides). When they don’t know something, they say so. No invented dates.
